This introductory course covers the fundamentals of programming in Python. The course is designed for both beginners and students who wish to review and reinforce their Python skills.
The fundamentals taught in this course are prerequisites for various courses in the Master’s program in Geo-Environmental Engineering as well as other programs in the field of energy and raw materials sciences, and are applied in practical settings. The introductory course therefore provides excellent preparation for your studies.
You will learn or review:
- How to run Python code in Jupyter Notebooks
- Fundamentals such as variables, data types, and operators
- Control structures such as if, for, and while, as well as functions and modules
- Working with lists, dictionaries, and strings
- An introduction to important Python libraries for mathematics, data analysis, and scientific applications, particularly NumPy, Pandas, and Matplotlib

- Geoenvironmental engineering (strongly recommended)
- Mining engineering (recommended)
- Environmental process engineering and recycling (feel free to participate if space is available)
- Energy systems engineering (feel free to participate if spaces are still available)
- Petroleum engineering (feel free to participate if there are still spots available)
