Basic module specialist tutors

Student tutors and mentors provide guidance to students. They help them get started in their studies, offer orientation, and—in subject-specific areas—provide opportunities to work through practice problems and review topics covered in lectures in small groups.

To successfully carry out these responsible tasks, they need a variety of knowledge and skills. Subject-specific expertise forms the foundation. However, organizational skills, teaching knowledge, and a clear understanding of their own role are also essential for success.

 

Our workshop aims to prepare you for your tutoring role and provide you with essential tools so you can get off to a confident start.

  • Role as a tutor, tutoring behaviors that promote learning
  • Fundamentals of learning psychology (neurodidactics, learning strategies, etc.) and behavior that promotes learning
  • The “minimal guidance” principle
  • Managing group dynamics
  • Stages of a group process—TZI model
  • Levels of communication
  • Handling Conflict Situations in Tutorials
  • Practicing Tutoring Sequences, Feedback

 

Objectives:

  • Participants will become familiar with the fundamentals of learning psychology.
  • Participants will recognize and apply supportive, learning-promoting tutoring behaviors.
  • Participants will practice methodological and social skills to effectively manage situations.
  • They will learn the rules for giving feedback and apply them.
